In the fall of 1973, high school senior Nancy (Meeks) Sanford began looking at colleges to enroll in – well, singularly, a college in which to enroll. "My dad said I could attend any college in the world I wanted to as long as it was located in Florence, Alabama," Sanford said. With a laugh, she admits she couldn't have asked for any better experience.

After classes let out, an 11-year-boy bikes down the street from his house to his neighbor's, eager to learn more about his passion. His tires skid to a halt and he strides through the front door, traversing the boundary between the world and his passion. He greets his neighbor and sits, a guitar stretched over his legs as he awaits his next lesson. Dillon Hodges would go on to win 14 flat-picking competitions thanks to his neighbor, Mark Campbell.
